R34 Skyline for sale in Houston? We'll source one in Japan

The R34 Skyline GT-R was never sold new in the US. Cars are becoming legal to import one build month at a time through 2027, and Walltap Garage finds the right one in Japan, checks its paperwork and brings it to Texas.

Which Skylines can be imported now?

Under the 25-year rule, a car becomes eligible 25 years after its own build month, not its model year.

GenerationGT-R builtImport status
R321989–1994Every car is past 25 years
R331995–1998Every car is past 25 years
R341999–2002Eligible by build month: early cars since 2024, the last ones during 2027

A 2001 or 2002 R34 can be found and planned for now, but it can't be imported until its own date. We read the build date from the chassis plate and documents before you commit to anything.

GT-R or GT-T?

Most buyers searching "R34 for sale" want the GT-R, with the RB26DETT twin-turbo inline-six and all-wheel drive. The R34 GT-T uses the single-turbo RB25DET and is rear-wheel drive, and it costs far less. Plenty of GT-Ts have been dressed up as GT-Rs, so the chassis code on the documents matters more than the badges.

Why the paperwork matters: R34 GT-Rs are among the most copied and most expensive JDM cars. We match the chassis number, auction sheet and export certificate before any money moves, and we tell you straight away if something doesn't line up.

What to check before bidding

  • Real GT-R chassis vs. a converted GT-T
  • Build month, so you know the earliest date it can legally enter the US
  • Accident and repair history: R and RA grades, replaced panels and inspector notes. Auction grades explained
  • Engine and gearbox swaps, which can affect EPA eligibility
  • Rust, mileage status and the quality of any tuning work

Tell us the generation, trim, colour, mileage limit and all-in budget, and we'll search Japanese auctions, dealer stock and exporter inventory. Costs are in our JDM import cost guide, and the shipping and Texas title steps are in importing a car from Japan to Texas.

Questions buyers ask

Is the R34 Skyline legal to import to the US?

Yes, once the specific car is 25 years old from its build month and clears EPA and customs. Early R34s became eligible in 2024, and the last ones become eligible during 2027.

Can I buy a 2002 R34 GT-R now?

You can plan the search and line up a car, but it can't be imported until it reaches 25 years from its build month. We'll talk through the timing for any specific car.

Are R32 and R33 Skylines legal to import?

Yes. Every R32 and R33 Skyline is now more than 25 years old, so the build month is no longer the question. Condition and paperwork are.

What is the difference between an R34 GT-R and a GT-T?

The GT-R has the twin-turbo RB26DETT and all-wheel drive. The GT-T has the single-turbo RB25DET and rear-wheel drive. The chassis code on the documents tells you which one a car really is.

Do you have R34s in stock?

We source to order from Japan. Tell us your spec and budget, and ask about any cars we currently have.

Can I register an imported Skyline in Texas?

Yes. After customs, the car gets a Texas safety and emissions inspection, a VIN inspection and a title application. The steps are on our Texas import page.
