The short answer
There's no honest single number. The total depends on the car, the auction price, the exchange rate, the shipping route and method, US import charges at the time of import, and where it's delivered. What we can do is give you an itemized estimate for a specific car before you approve a bid, with every assumption and exclusion written down.
Your all-in cost is made of six parts:
| Stage | What it covers | What moves the number |
|---|---|---|
| 1. The car | Winning auction bid or dealer price, in yen | Model, condition grade, mileage, demand, exchange rate |
| 2. Japan side | Auction or agent fees, inland transport to the port, export paperwork, port handling | Auction location and distance to port |
| 3. Ocean shipping | Freight to a US port, plus marine insurance | RORO vs. container, vehicle size, non-running or modified cars |
| 4. US import | Customs entry, duties and tariffs, broker and port charges | Vehicle value, import date, current tariff rules |
| 5. Texas | Motor vehicle sales/use tax, title and registration | Purchase price, county |
| 6. Delivery and first service | Port to your driveway, then fluids, tires, belts and anything the inspection flagged | Distance, open vs. enclosed transport, the car's condition |
